Voter Registration Drive in Lakeland

As the 2016 General Election nears, the Mu Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. took to the community to get Polk County residents registered to vote. Residents already registered also took advantage of the opportunity to update their information with the Supervisor of Elections Office.

The Mu Zeta Lambda voter education and registration drive supported Alpha Phi Alpha’s national program, “A Voteless People is a Hopeless People.” This initiative began during the 1930’s when many African-Americans had the right to vote but were prevented from voting because of poll taxes, threats of reprisal, and lack of education about the voting process. Voter education and registration have remained a dominant focus of this outreach activity for over 65 years.
